Geres thermal water
The Termas do Gerês dates back to Roman times, but it was in the 18th century that D. João V had the first thermal establishment built. The characteristics of their waters make them suitable for the treatment of hypertension, obesity, diabetes, kidney and gallstones and rheumatic diseases.
At present there is a SPA, heated pool, gym, massage programs and thermal aesthetics. The climate, the tranquility of the place and the ritual of the thermal treatment associated with a healthy diet and the balneotherapy, make the Termas do Gerês have positive effects in the relief of stress and fatigue, anorexia, depression, rheumatism, poor circulation and well-being generally.
The treatments of the Spa of Gerês
The treatment provided in the Spa of Gerês passes through the ingestion of water from Fonte da Bica , during a minimum recommended period of 14 days. The intake of water is made in small amounts, usually 3 to 4 times a day, according to the recommendation of the thermal doctor. The thermal treatment contemplates two consultations of the doctor, one before the beginning of the treatments and another one at the end of the thermal period.

Water from the Bica Fountain - "Aegri surgunt sani"
The water that is ingested in the Spa of Gerês has a high pH, markedly alkaline, of 9.1.
It is a weakly mineralized water with a thiosulfate ionic composition and sodium bicarbonate. It is a hyperthermal water, since water emerges at a temperature above 40ºC (47ºC).
It is clear and without smell, atypical, not being known another equal. According to the information available in the Gerês Thermal Baths, the approximate values of the main water parameters are as follows:
